Early Market Closing

Early will be losing a grocery store by the end of the year. According to published reports the Hometown Market’s owner says the store will be closed by the end of the year. The Early Boulevard land where the store is located has been sold to a developer.

New Scam In Brown County

Another scam is making the rounds in Brown County where a man posing as a UPS driver is checking with residents to see if they’re in their homes. Authorities say they were contacted by the delivery company after they received calls from concerned customers.

New Pet Tags In Comanche

Comanche police remind residents that the new city tags are in starting on Monday so dog and cat owners need to renew. The cost is $6 for all spayed or neutered dogs and cats and $10 for intact dogs and cats. A rabies certificate is required for renewals.

Credit Card Skimmer Suspect Wanted

Brownwood Police are looking for a suspect connected with a possible credit card skimmer installtion. A surveillance photo shows the suspect is a white man with dark hair and a full beard. He was wearing a red baseball cap. Call police if you know of the man’s whereabouts.

Brownwood City Council Approves Budget

On Tuesday the Brownwood City Council approved a 2018-2019 budget that provides for pay raises and covers higher medical insurance costs while actually lowering taxes. The three percent spending increase is being paid for by higher tax revenues. The $35.3 million spending plan is effective on Monday.

Sears Closes In Early

Sears in Early is now just a memory as the store in the Heartland Mall closed for good on Monday. The store’s closing was announced at the beginning of the month. All Sears Hometown stores are individually owned.

Debate Went On Without Opponent

Brown County Judge write-in candidate Steve Fryar was at a debate Tuesday – but his opponent Paul Lilly was a no show as he had promised. Fryar challenged Lilly to three debates but Lilly said the time for debating was before the primary election and Fryar didn’t run.

Early Traffic Stop Leads To Arrest

A traffic stop in Early last Saturday results in a driver arrested on multiple charges. Police say they pulled over Tac Stuart on Lucus Drive and noticed a marijuana smell coming from the vehicle. A search found pot along with other drugs and a handgun.
